This is the most informative book I have read all year! Dr. Khalsa gives lots of background studies to back up the use of meditation for healing.

Having Dr. Khalsa from the medical profession make a statement that maybe medicating clients isn't always healing, indicates that there is a turn; a turn inward. In these times of turmoil, this book is a godsend. There are distinct instructions for implementing the meditations for the various chakras. If you can do just one of these meditations, you will find a plethora of benefits in the long run.

In this small (literally) book, HH Dalai Lama speaks of compassion, ridding oneself of anger, forgiveness of enemies, living life in a truly more loving way. Although much of it seems familiar to western ears [the ideas of love compassion and service are not unknown in western religion and philosophy], the simplicity of much of what the Dalai Lama says is striking.

His own struggles with anger are enlightening, and the prose, gleaned from lectures I believe, is smooth and cleanly transformed into English. There are other books of the Dalai Lama that are far more demanding ("tranforming the mind" for example), although few are more accesible.

A lovely gift,a wonderful introduction to one of the masters of the day.

Have you read Haikus for Jews? It is one of the funniest and cleverest books I have read in a long time. Zen Judaism is just as funny and just as clever! And I am not a regular "Jewish humor" customer by any means. I just bought it yesterday and have already reccomended it over and over again.

It is perfect subway/bus reading, dinner party conversation (although I'd be careful you don't read it aloud when your guests are eating - they might choke from laughing and eating at the same time), or 'just in the mood to laugh' reading. It is well worth the price - and more! You'll love it.
